Community Involvement: A Cornerstone for WellCare of Kentucky in 2022

WellCare celebrates the impact they’ve made in Kentucky communities

Louisville, KY, January 04, 2022 — During 2022, communities across Kentucky sought to improve their health and wellness in the face of countless healthcare challenges like COVID-19 variants, mental health issues, and more. Through it all, WellCare of Kentucky partnered with residents to take a stand against unhealthy lifestyle behaviors and helped improve their health and well-being through awareness, education, and action.

Recognizing the impact of social determinants of health, WellCare expanded its support beyond medical needs and took action to empower and uplift communities, ensuring a strong foundation for overall health and wellness. These activities addressed health and wellness challenges such as food insecurity, transportation, and vaccinations.

“Across the state, we came together with our partners, providers, and leaders to encourage our community members to be active and engaged in their health and well-being,” said Corey Ewing, Plan President for WellCare. “Together, we have created innovative solutions to help people of Kentucky address personal struggles and critical health challenges, and I’m proud of our involvement in helping our community live healthier lives.”

These positive initiatives brought improved health and well-being throughout Kentucky while allowing WellCare to support and build meaningful relationships among communities. These connections remain a priority for WellCare as we move into the new year.

  • Community Events: In 2022, our Community Relations Team coordinated and participated in 206 events in 65 counties across Kentucky. The team distributed health resource materials and at many events, Covid vaccinations were available. More than 10,000 attended the events and approximately 340 received their vaccination.
  • Flood Relief: In July, historic floods ravaged several counties in eastern Kentucky. In the days following the disaster, WellCare use various communications methods to reach out to more than 25,000 members that were affected. Along with delivering personal care items, WellCare donated over $400,000 to relief efforts.
  • Financial Support: In 2022, WellCare donated over $450,000 to community partners across the state. Funds were used to provide transportation services, access to healthy foods, dentures for low-income people, and educational programs. In November, WellCare donated $1,000,000 to Volunteers of America to support its addiction recovery program for pregnant and parenting mothers.
