WellCare of Kentucky Partners with Community Action Commission to Open Owen County’s First Emergency Food Pantry

Food pantry is estimated to serve 20 families a month

Owenton, KY, June 5, 2023 — In May, Owen County will open its first emergency food pantry. The pantry, located in the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission (NKCAC) building, will be open Monday-Friday, 8am - 4pm, offering non-perishable food items.

A grant from WellCare of Kentucky will cover initial start-up costs.

“While there are several food pantries in Owen County, there is not one where you can get ‘emergency’ food,” said Lauren Keith, NKAC Center Manager. “This partnership between WellCare of Kentucky and NKCAC will meet this specific need and we expect to serve around 20 families per month.”

Emergency food pantries often offer extended hours, providing ready-made packages of non-perishable food items to those in immediate need.

“Food insecurity is a continuing issue for many Kentuckians,” said Corey Ewing, WellCare Plan President. “Emergency food pantries like this one are a literal lifeline for those who don’t know where their next meal is coming from.”

The pantry will be staffed by NKCAC employees and volunteers. NKCAC is located at 717 Madison Ave, Covington, Kentucky.
